Kentucky Attorney CLE hour credits

Kentucky attorneys are required to complete 12 CLE hours every year. As part of this 12-hour requirement, you must complete a minimum of 2 credit hours devoted to “ethics, professional responsibility and professionalism”.

COVID-19 Update: The Supreme Court of Kentucky has issued an order extending the 2019-2020 CLE deadline to June 30, 2021. All Kentucky attorneys should complete a total of 24 credits, including 4 ethics, by June 30, 2021.
 

HOW TO COMPLETE COURSES

Here are the steps to complete a course:

  1. Purchase the course
  2. You will receive an emailed order receipt. The receipt will include links to your course(s) so that you can start your course(s) immediately, you will use these links to start or resume your course(s) at any time.
  3. Complete the course. Once you have completed the course you will be able to immediately download and print your course certificate.

How many CLE hours are required?
Twelve (12) CLE units every year. The continuing legal education activities must be approved by the Commission, including a minimum of 2 credit hours devoted to “ethics, professional responsibility and professionalism”.

When is my education due?
All continuing legal education activities must be completed by June 30 of each educational year.

COVID-19 Update: The Supreme Court of Kentucky has issued an order extending the 2019-2020 CLE deadline to June 30, 2021 (previously June 30, 2020), and combining the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 reporting cycles. All Kentucky attorneys should complete a total of 24 credits, including 4 ethics, by June 30, 2021, and certify their compliance to the bar by August 10, 2021.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?
A member who accumulates an excess over the 12 credit requirement may carry forward the excess credits into the 2 successive educational years for the purpose of satisfying the minimum requirement for those years. Carry-forward credits are limited to a total of 24 credits, including 4 ethics credits. All excess credits above a total of 24 credits will remain on the member’s record but may not be carried forward.

How are CLE credits reported to the state bar?
The Kentucky Bar encourages all members to report their CLE credits online through the member portal. Step by step instructions can be viewed here.

Does CLE Academy report my CLE hours completed?
CLE Academy will keep track of your credit hours, however you are responsible for reporting your hours through the online member portal. All activities must be reported no later than August 10th immediately following the educational year in which the activity is completed.

How many hours of audio-delivered programs can I complete per year?
There is no limit on the number of audio-delivered programs Kentucky Bar Association members can complete per year.

Is CLE Academy an approved provider in the state of Kentucky?
